Cob Oven – Iglu

Last week we implemented an idea we had: What if we build a cub oven? At this time, the community buys their bread from an outside market. This means, low quality food, plastic and dependence on the outside market. We realized that if we introduce the idea of an oven and motivate the locals to sell their bread in leafs, that we will not only minimize plastic, but also strengthen the community´s self sustainable micro economic systems, while also serving the people with quality food!

We personally have never made an oven, so it was a communal learning process. After the trial and error period, we came up with a beautiful oven, which we named Iglu! We also added a weaved bamboo roof to protected it from rain. For the roof, we cut fresh bamboo, split it, split it again, softened the sharp edges, and finally learned from the elders how to weave it into a roof. Here is the process!
